IRONTON ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥” When he arrived at The Counseling CenterÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™s new Ironton location, 34-year-old Corey Sapp said that the size of the new space is different than he expected.
ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œItÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™s small, but itÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™s comfortable. You donÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™t have to worry about a lot of people,ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥ Sapp said. ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œI expected to go to a different location with a lot more people, but they said that we were going to be some of the first people to come here, which was a blessing in disguise.ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥
The center, which opened at 328 Center St. in Ironton on Thursday, helps those recovering from substance abuse transition back into normal society through its sober living program, according to Site Director Amy Morris.
Morris, who is from Ironton, said the different amenities the facility provides along with the size of the community around it is a great combination for the six residents who moved into the 16-bed facility this week.
ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œWe have a very clean facility with a full-service gym that they are excited about,ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥ Morris said. ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œThey can come and go from the facility as they please and they have a curfew. There are rules in the facility that they have to abide by but the goal is to really just be that support network for them so that they can learn to go on to the next step of their life.ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥
Cody Lindsey, who will be 10 months clean from active addiction Sunday and turns 40 in August, said The Counseling Center is a facility like nothing heÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™s seen before.
ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œRecovery has been challenging,ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥ Lindsey said. ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œIÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™m working out my defects and was able to get what I could out of some places. But when I got to (The Counseling Center), I got to give it to them hands down ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥” they have the best resources from start to finish and you couldnÃÛ·èÖ±²¥™t ask for a better place to get right.ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥
The Center Street location is a treatment facility for men in level 2.1 care, which is transitional or sober living, according to Morris.
ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥œThis is my hometown, so to be able to provide this quality of care to my neighbors is an honor,ÃÛ·èÖ±²¥ she said.
